Our Governors

I am a father of 3, 2 sons aged 18 and 12 and a daughter aged 16. I am an Accountant for the Community Education Partnership, a multi-academy trust which includes Topcliffe School. Before this, I worked for Birmingham City Council and was part of the working group that implemented the current funding formula for nursery schools and all providers of early years education. I have previously been a Governor at a Junior School in Birmingham.  I have chosen to be a governor in order to help support the valuable work that is being undertaken by the staff at Castle Vale Nursery School in accelerating the learning of the children which gives them a good start in their educational development.   I do feel that my experience of being a school governor, coupled with my background in finance, and in particular school funding, will help me support school leaders meet the upcoming challenges they will face, especially in dealing with national funding changes and the implications this will have for sustainable nursery school provision.

Sally GovI am the Head Teacher of the school. I chose to work on Castle Vale after I met the wonderful children. They still amaze me every day. I love working with the children and families and strive to make their time with us the best it can be so the children can achieve. Before working here I taught in Walsall. I believe that I can advise the governors well and respond to their challenge as we work together in our plans to make the school and children’s centre even better.        I feel that we have a really strong governing body at the moment and that all the governors have the skills and will to provide the best education and care for our children.

I am currently a stay at home mom to three boys. My middle son is autistic and attends the Nursery full time. When I was working I was a Senior Personal Assistant at a large law firm. I am chairman of the local Air Cadets Welfare Committee.
I want to become more involved with the Nursery School, especially regarding SEN and believe that the governing body is the best place to start.
I am a highly skilled administrator with 15 plus years experience. I have excellent project management and organisation skills.

I am a mother of two amazing children. I have always enjoyed helping and volunteering with children. I was helping after school groups before I had my own children. I have lived on Castle Vale all my life. I attended Castle Vale Nursery School, Topcliffe Primary and then Castle Vale Comprehensive whilst also attending youth groups on the estate. I am therefore proud to be a part of helping set up a good start for more children on Castle Vale and this is why I have been a Governor of the Nursery School for over 5 years. I started as a parent governor as I was interested in helping and supporting a good setting for my son. As I learned about the passion and love the nursery has for children and families, I got more involved and was voted in as the Chair of Governors as I share the same ethos and values for our children. I have experienced the Nursery School as a child and parent and therefore feel I can contribute to the challenge and on-going improvement of the school. I have put a lot of time into learning my role as a governor and as chair and will continue to develop and improve my knowledge and skills to help maintain what a great nursery school this is.

Kerri Treasure – Currently, I am a stay at home mom to my three children and previously worked at Tesco whilst studying an Access to Law and BTEC business course which I passed with Distinction. This allowed me to gain a place at University where I completed a joint honours degree with 2:1 classification.
A parent governor will play an extremely vital role in assisting the Nursery School fulfil their duty to the children that attend. Due to a parent knowing what they expect/believe children should learn, experience etc. when at Nursery School. It gives a different outlook on how the nursery school may help in specific areas. It also allows input from children which is given in an honest way as they may find it easier to speak to parents or siblings about things at Nursery. This will provide their interpretations of Nursery and how they feel and allow us to reflect this in how we conduct certain aspects.
I can bring ‘out the box’ ideas, initiative, reliability, compassion, eagerness, confidence in my views and an understanding approach.
Carli McCallin – I am a head of school at another Birmingham Nursery School and I have been teaching in the Early Years for ten years. I have previously been a governor in my own school and have experience of the impact and contributions that governors can make to a school. I have a keen interest in Special Educational Needs and Early Years pedagogy and I am passionate about environments which enable children to take a lead and provoke language and problem solving.
I want to contribute to the life of the school and work with the head and other governors to ensure that Castle Vale Nursery School continues to be outstanding. I would like to support the school to continuously evolve and embrace new approaches and ideas.
I am passionate about SEND, pedagogy and finances within a school environment. I would like to support the school to be innovative and ground breaking in how it operates and be involved in reviewing the curriculum and teaching and learning across the school.
