Our Governors

Aimee website

I am a mother of two amazing children. I have always enjoyed helping and volunteering with children. I was helping after school groups before I had my own children. I have lived on Castle Vale all my life. I attended Castle Vale Nursery School, Topcliffe Primary and then Castle Vale Comprehensive whilst also attending youth groups on the estate. I am therefore proud to be a part of helping set up a good start for more children on Castle Vale and this is why I have been a Governor of the Nursery School for over 5 years. I started as a parent governor as I was interested in helping and supporting a good setting for my son. As I learned about the passion and love the nursery has for children and families, I got more involved and was voted in as the Chair of Governors as I share the same ethos and values for our children. I have experienced the Nursery School as a child and parent and therefore feel I can contribute to the challenge and on-going improvement of the school. I have put a lot of time into learning my role as a governor and as chair and will continue to develop and improve my knowledge and skills to help maintain what a great nursery this is.

Mark pic for websiteI am a father of 3, 2 sons aged 18 and 12 and a daughter aged 16. I am an Accountant for the Community Education Partnership, a multi-academy trust which includes Topcliffe School. Before this, I worked for Birmingham City Council and was part of the working group that implemented the current funding formula for nursery schools and all providers of early years education. I have previously been a Governor at a Junior School in Birmingham.  I have chosen to be a governor in order to help support the valuable work that is being undertaken by the staff at Castle Vale Nursery School in accelerating the learning of the children which gives them a good start in their educational development.   I do feel that my experience of being a school governor, coupled with my background in finance, and in particular school funding, will help me support school leaders meet the upcoming challenges they will face, especially in dealing with national funding changes and the implications this will have for sustainable nursery school provision.

Sally GovI am the Head Teacher of the school. I chose to work on Castle Vale after I met the wonderful children. They still amaze me every day. I love working with the children and families and strive to make their time with us the best it can be so the children can achieve. Before working here I taught in Walsall. I believe that I can advise the governors well and respond to their challenge as we work together in our plans to make the school and children’s centre even better.                                                  I feel that we have a really strong governing body at the moment and that all the governors have the skills and will to provide the best education and care for our children.

Lauren Gov

I am a Family Support Worker here at Castle Vale Nursery School and Children’s Centre. I applied for this position after completing my BA Hons in Early Childhood Studies with Practitioner Status. I have since gone on to complete a Postgraduate Qualification in Education. In my role I support families to make positive changes or offer advice on issues such as housing, benefits or parenting etc. I also oversee the delivery of the groups facilitated for children under 5. I deliver a number of courses for parents/carers to support them with depression, low mood/confidence and parenting and domestic abuse. I have been a Governor for nearly 2 years.  I am a Governor because I am passionate about how we deliver our services to produce the best outcomes for children and their families. I wanted to become involved with how we develop as a setting and ensure we continuously improve. I attend the meetings and contribute as needed throughout the meetings. I have been nominated to be the Safeguarding Governor and therefore I monitor Safeguarding policies and procedures, produce a report and update all Governor’s on current Safeguarding concerns. or changes within the city. I support the Head teacher to complete our Safeguarding Audit.

ChristinaI have been a teacher for five and a half years at Castle Vale Nursery School. I specialised in Early Years when training to become a teacher and before then, I did a BA Honours in Early Childhood Studies. I have always wanted to work with young children and I love my job. It is so rewarding working with the children and families from Castle Vale.  I am also a qualified Forest School Leader and I do sessions three afternoons a week, alongside other members of staff, to enable us to have Forest School every day. You will often find me outside, covered in mud! I have been a staff governor for three and a half years (I have just renewed my term of service). I became a governor to have even more involvement in the way our Nursery School can provide the best possible education for our children.  As I already work in the Nursery School, I have a high understanding of the children and families we support and of the teaching and learning that happens. I also help to analyse sets of data for the groups of children I am responsible for (such as our Early Years Pupil Premium Children).

Hassan

I am a full time carer for my three children. I used to be a vehicle technician and MOT Tester, which I will return to once my children are in full time education.

I have become a governor to get a better understanding of how a Nursery School is run and to help in whichever way I can.

I can contribute by giving a parent’s opinion on the school and to help it move forwards.

I am a Support Services Manager for Compass Support, a charity based on Castle Vale. I have worked on Castle Vale since 2009 and am passionate about the potential of children, young people and families who live on the estate. I believe they are capable of amazing things and the services that I manage enable and empower them to reach their true potential and lead successful lives. I am also a Mum of two amazing children, Max and Eve, and so understand the challenges and wonderful rewards of being a parent. I want to support an Outstanding Nursery School to support and empower children and families on Castle Vale. Our children deserve the very best start in life and I believe Castle Vale Nursery School and Children’s Centre offers that. I want to give something back to a community that has welcomed me and that is still not viewed as positively as it should be by other communities outside of Castle Vale. I work in the community supporting children and families and can provide insight and knowledge around what I manage in relation to family support and health and wellbeing. I also have a very successful track record around bid writing and successfully winning grant funding and tenders so would share this with the Nursery School as required. I am responsible for a budget over £300,000 so have a good understanding of income and expenditure and monitoring and evaluation requirements.
